JOB PURPOSE: To support learners and supervise with the day-to-day operations of the educational programme, delivering training for equestrian qualifications and functional skills. Supervising young people and ensuring their safety and wellbeing & safeguarding responsibilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise educational sessions for students with additional needs; provide a safe and secure environment, treating each participant and horse & pony with equal concern; complete daily admin, half-termly reports and EHCP updates; work with initiative and as part of a team with a flexible and creative approach; assist participants in caring for, exercising and training the horses and ponies during sessions. Agree and adhere to all the organisation’s values, policies, principles, aims and safeguarding responsibilities
ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES: Relevant equine experience and training. Understanding of neurological differences and mental health issues in young people.Genuine desire to work in a therapeutic equestrian centre and assist the business to develop. Energy and enthusiasm. Patience. Perceptive and responsive nature. Ability to adapt to the needs of the participants. Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills, organisation and administration skills. Genuine interest in self-development in therapeutic horsemanship. Effective, kind and considerate horsemanship skills. Understanding of the importance of safeguarding responsibilities
DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES: Teaching / lecturing / assessing qualifications and experience. Equine Facilitated Learning training or experience. Horsemanship experience or training. Animal care experience or training. Experience of working with disabled and/or disadvantaged young people. Experience of working with a range of horses. HND or Degree level Equine qualification. Assessment Qualification (A1 or equivalent)
Requirements
This job involves working with young people with additional educational needs. An enhanced DBS check and 2 references are required for this role.
Part-time hours available between 8:30am and 5pm Tuesday to Friday, 40 weeks per year (term time + 2 weeks), with optional school holiday overtime available. PAY: £30,000 per annum PRO RATA
