Position Overview: Salty Oak Farm is looking for an experienced and passionate Barn Manager to join our dynamic team. As Barn Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the barn and ensuring the care and well-being of all horses in the facility. This includes managing staff, coordinating horse care schedules, maintaining barn organization, and ensuring safety standards are met. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, organizational skills, and a deep knowledge of horse care.

Key Responsibilities: Horse Care: Oversee the feeding, grooming, and daily care of all horses. Ensure horses are properly housed, monitored for health issues, and receive any necessary treatments or veterinary care. Coordinate farrier, vet, and other appointments for horses. Maintain detailed records for each horse, including medical history and maintenance schedules. Staff Management: Supervise and schedule barn staff, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts. Provide training and direction to staff on proper barn procedures and horse care techniques. Foster a positive and productive work environment. Handle staff conflicts or issues as they arise and ensure policies and procedures are followed.

Requirements

Facility Maintenance: Ensure the barn, stables, and related facilities are clean, organized, and safe. Manage the maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities, including fences, stalls, and tack. Coordinate regular facility inspections to ensure safety and cleanliness standards are met. Managing the feed and care of the other farm animals including goats, chickens, and peacocks. Scheduling and Coordination: Oversee the scheduling of horse activities, including lessons, events, training, and appointments. Maintain communication with clients about schedules and appointments. Manage the barn’s calendar for riding lessons, training sessions, and other events. Inventory Management: Maintain an inventory of supplies, including feed, bedding, grooming tools, tack, and cleaning supplies. Order supplies as needed and ensure cost-effective inventory management. Keep track of barn expenses and report to ownership or management. Client Relations: Serve as the point of contact for clients, answering inquiries and addressing concerns. Ensure a high level of client satisfaction through excellent communication and service. Assist with the scheduling of riding lessons, training sessions, and other services for clients. Safety and Compliance: Ensure the barn and its operations comply with local regulations and safety standards. Implement safety protocols for staff, clients, and horses, including emergency procedures. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of horse care and barn management best practices. Administrative Tasks: Keep accurate records of horse care, client interactions, and barn expenses. Handle correspondence, including emails and phone calls. Assist with budgeting, billing, and other financial aspects of barn operations.

Physical Requirements: Ability to work some weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed. Comfort working in all weather conditions. Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and walking long distances.

Salty Oak Farm is a 275 acre property just outside of Charleston, SC. We are primarily a hunter/jumper facility offering full service boarding, training, show services and lessons. We also have a small trail riding program available to the public. The facility is also an event facility that hosts weddings, birthday parties and corporate events. We also do summer and holiday camps.
