Looking for an intern to join our team that (1) wants to learn a variety of ways to earn a living in the equine industry (2) enjoys being involved with young adults with and without learning disabilities, (3) )believes that both horses and people like to be in control of their environment. Most of the horses being used in our program have been born here as have their mothers and grandmothers. They have been sired by stallions that have produced performance horses that have won over a million dollars in cutting or reining. In addition to raising and training performance horses, we are also involved in an equine jobs for youth program which was developed to help youths primarily in the 18 to 23 year old age range find employment & includes both young adults with & without learning difficulties. Because of the strategies used to train our horses, all of the horses can be used in this program. Since the purpose of the program is to prepare young adults for equine related occupations these students are taught a wide variety of horse related skills based on their interests and background experiences. Some of the skills they are taught include but are not limited to barn maintenance, farm maintenance, horse handling, and barefoot trimming. We own 40 acres & our facility includes a covered arena, a small covered round pen, a 250 ft outdoor round pen, a reining track, and miles of trail riding. The area is unique in that the road in front of the farm is within walking distance of such places as Home Depot, Chill's, Walmart, the Olive Garden; while thousands of acres can be viewed from the back of the farm There are three full time on site employees in charge of maintenance, cleaning the stalls, giving lessons, & horse training. The position includes a small stipend based on experience, housing, utilities, laundry room, wifi, etc, & could lead to a permanent position.
