Equine Work Experience
I volunteered at a professional trekking centre, helping to lead rides, care for the horses, take care of clients and ensure their happiness.
I worked at a brood farm which was becoming a trekking centre. I was in charge of daily horse care, grooming, feed, mucking out and exercising as well as foaling down and training horses. I have got experience in starting a horse, and believe that a strong connection and base in groundwork is paramount. I focus on having calm, receptive handling on the ground and teaching them skills that can then be transferred to riding.
I worked for a personal owner keeping their horses fit and exercised to their specifications in Spain.
I have worked on a professional dressage yard ensuring exceptional levels of turnout.
Specialities
I have worked with horses in a number of environments. I have worked with rescue horses from their initial intake through to full health. I have worked with stallions, broodmares and their sub sequential foals. I have helped with the training of horses and I have helped lead treks for multiple days. I have led day treks alone.
Type of Ride Work
When I have been on multi-day treks, most recently (2023) through Morocco, I am often given the "difficult" horse who is often more sensitive or spooky, and I am happy to work with that. I have ridden younger horses who need clear guidance, and older more well trained horses who will only do as you want them to do if you ask correctly. I have done minimal jumping, cross-country and dressage and found I prefer long day, or multi day trail rides.
Competition Details
When I owned my own horse we competed at show jumping and also at dressage. It was not levelled, it was aimed at novices.
