Duties of Current Occupation

Understanding Equine, how to care for them. Being able to recognise a problem before it escalates and is harder to manage.

Equine Work Experience

Successful horseman, open eventing [5 star], Grand Prix show jumper, Dressage elementary, Flat racing, farriery, equine dentistry. Older and very experienced, dedicated horseman, always willing to learn more. Started riding at age 5, at 16 entered a farrier apprenticeship and qualified before 21st birthday. Competed show jumping, riding dressage and eventing. While living and competing in the USA I learnt the importance of equine densitry and in 1995 became one of the first horseman to become specialised in Equine Dentistry. In 1981 while living in South Africa and working as assistant to David Stubbs, I was on the panel of the first instructors to teach horsemanship for the future riding Instructors of South Africa. I have since traveled to many countries teaching horsemanship covering showjumping, dressage, eventing, edurance and horse racing. I have always been forward thinking in my teaching stressing the importance of health and wellbeing to both horse and rider.

Specialities

Balance of mind and body of both horse and rider. Horsemanship, understanding that each animal has its own individual character and that they can not be treated and handled all the same way. Often problems can be solved by understanding the balance of horse and rider. We teach a horsemanship concept that is based old horseman's techniques with new ideas based on treating both rider and horse as an indivdual athlete.

Type of Ride Work

Worked with all equine in many situations, backing, young and green horses, using flatwork as the foundation to show jump, event, race and endurance. Hacking is a great experience for a sound mind for both horse and rider.
