Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree from University of California at Davis in Animal and Behavioral Science. Associates Degree for Exotic. Animal Care and Management
Duties of Current Occupation
As a vet technician, my main duties include dog/cat handling, catheter placement, blood draws, anesthesia monitoring, taking X-rays, and caring for boarding animals. Mullingar Equestrian Center: yard manager, instructor
Equine Work Experience
Growing up in a horse riding family, I rode and worked with the horses from a very young age. I cleaned corrals, groomed and exercised horses, and worked as a camp counselor. As a competitor, I started in equitation and hunters. As I progressed, I moved to jumpers (4ft) and dressage (2nd level) and combined training (Training level). I did an internship at the Center for Equine Health where I monitored injured/sick horses, did blood draws, handled newborn foals, and worked with breeding stallions. Continued to work with horses as an instructor for beginner students in California and later for intermediate to advanced riders in Mullingar.
Specialities
Although I have done a little bit of everything around the horses, I have specialized in teaching beginner and young riders and working with green horses or just maintenance schooling.
At Mullingar Equestrian Center I worked with lessons of 8+ in the arena and led eventing and hacks with 20+. I was also the barn manager so ensured the health, care, feeding, cleaning, and turnouts for the competition horses and ponies.
Type of Ride Work
I volunteered with Compton Jr. Posse (a program for underprivileged children) as an instructor and at Ride to Fly (a program for handicapped children) are ways that I have used my knowledge. I have been employed to exercise and school a green Holstein mare, working on basic ring work, trail work and ground manners. I also was hired to ride two Hanoverian geldings working mostly on flat work and introducing them to basic hunter fences.
Competition Details
Began in low height hunters. As I got older I started jumpers and went up to 4ft jumpers. At the same time I was competing in Dressage and went up to 2nd level dressage all with my Hanoverian mare. At University, I was able to start three-day eventing and have been competing at Novice level and hope to start Training level soon.
