Equine Work Experience
I grew up western riding in the backyard, gathering cows, or trail riding in the mountain however I didn't receive any professional riding instruction until I got to USU. There I took riding fundamentals, riding for instructors, handled and trained a weanling to prepare for sale as a yearling, and began dressage lessons while completing a saddle fitting internship. I've ridden western patterns and am riding at training level in dressage. I also got the opportunity to participate in a research study where I got to ride a Racewood Simulator. I've also trained and gentled my mare, a now seven year old red dun mustang named Freya.
Specialities
I have my bachelor's degree from Utah State University in animal, dairy, and veterinary science with an emphasis in equine science and management and a minor in equine-human science. This education has given me a foundation in equine behavior and biomechanics as well as understanding the partnership between horse and human. I also have more veterinary knowledge and experience than the average horse-person as I've worked in a veterinary clinic since I was in high school.
Type of Ride Work
Mostly western ranch work and trail riding, moving cows deep in the mountains of Utah and Idaho. But I was introduced to dressage while doing an internship with a saddle fitter and FEI level rider, who wanted me to start showing at intro level but unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity to that before my internship was finished. I've thoroughly enjoyed learning the fundamentals of the discipline and can't wait to continue my training.
Competition Details
I placed third in a small schooling show at Utah State University.
