Equine Work Experience

Part Time Employee at Emory and Henry University Barn in Emory, VA. Provided support with managing horse turnout and stabling, prepared and distributed feed (hay, grain, alfalfa, and supplements), blanketing, bathing, cleaning and filling water troughs and buckets, grooming, cleaning stalls, sweeping, laundry, restocking feed rooms, and hand-walking horses on stall rest. Additionally, aiding managers in poultice, sweat wraps, and standing wraps.

Intern at Willow Ponds Farm in Toano, VA. Gained experience in equine management while assisting the owner. Responsibilities included administering dewormers, vaccinations, and wound medications. Supported farrier and veterinary visits, managed horses with anhidrosis, and prepared and distributed feed and supplements. This was in addition to cleaning stalls, turning in and out, and blanketing.
Specialities

I have worked with yearlings, teaching ground work, voice commands, trailering, and under-saddle basics. I have also worked with retired horses through basic health maintenance and basic therapies. I am well versed in turn in and out procedures as one of my past jobs had over 80 horses, over a third of which received night turn out. I have trained new barn staff as well as have taught a few lessons under saddle.

Type of Ride Work

Most of the horses I have ridden are older, reliable, and generally well versed in schooling. I have worked under saddle with a 3 year old learning advanced flatwork and basic jumping. I predominantly ride English Hunter on the flat with some low intermediate level work over fences. I have a upper level beginner experience in Dressage and have competed in a home show.

Competition Details

I have worked home shows, both Hunter/Jumper and Dressage, as a calculator, secretary, announcer, scorer, jump course designer and crew, and most prominently a horse handler with the requirement of grooming, braiding, tacking up, and otherwise caring for the horse before, during, and after shows.
