McDermott Farms Pty Ltd is currently seeking a horse trainer/breaker. Must have at least 3 years experience breaking horses. Able to ride and educate horses for their racing career with particular emphasis on developing the foundation education for young thoroughbreds. The position is full time employment - 38 hrs a week. In addition the following will be required: Understand and carry out excellent horse welfare knowledge Able to educate young horses on the ground and barrier education Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred industry Proven ability to train and educate young and older horses Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent use of technology to produce reports and videos Ability to work as a team and independently Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment. Sound knowledge of health of safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses. Applications close 7 November 2024. Fernhill is the home of Australian Showjumping Champion Tom McDermott. The farm is situated west of Sydney and is 500 acres and is a listed heritage farm. We breed and compete showjumpers and also agist, break in and pre train thoroughbreds.
We require a rider with a strong background riding performance horses in showjumping or eventing. If you are a capable rider we can teach you to educate and ride pre training racehorses. It is of upmost importance that you are conscientious and pay attention to detail eg if a horse has any injury, wound or is unwell. We are able to sign off 2nd/3rd year visas. Accommodation, food, share car and wifi can be provided. Wage is fulltime Pastoral Award depending on age. A current WHV is required and the ability to speak reasonable English and can follow and understand instructions in English.
