We are a family farm situated in the north east corner of Scotland.

***Temporary winter post ***

In addition to our main farming comitments we have a growing Equestrian enterprise with first class facilities specialising in Irish Draught horses and Haflinger ponies.

We are now looking for a person to assist with the welfare of the horses and to handle youngsters in preparation for backing. For the more experienced applicant the opportunity to help with further training and riding is available.

We are lucky to be situated on the site of a former dairy farm so have an excellent system of fields with ample grass with large barns. Mucking out as required. This all very much depends on the weather. We can get snow and icy conditions which means horses can be inside for weeks or sometimes not at all depending on the weather. A few liveries must also be cared for. Handling foals and youngsters getting them used to picking up feet and leading. Experience of bare foot trimming would be advantagous. May also suit someone or a couple with Agriculture experience travelling Europe. There is opportunity to receive training from excellent visiting trainers and instructors and to compete at local level for a skilled rider. Show jumping, showing and eventing are the main yard interests. Must be able to work well in a team environment although will be self motivated as will be working alone most of the time. Really fun place to be and we like to be flexible and fair but expect respect and dedication from our staff with our horses welfare always coming first. Advantage being able to operate farm loader for feeding horses and mucking out stables.

Requirements
  • Applicant should be really confident about horses. Although we use natural horsemanship methods the applicant should realise that we are still backing youngsters and starting their education in a kind, confident way. This requires an individual that has a good degree of common sense and not be nervous around horses. The job skill requirements are not set hard and fast. We have staff who already have these skills and as we work as a team we all work together in getting the job done.
