Looking for a groom to work on a private yard managing the exercise and well-being of a string of 8 polo ponies. There’s plenty of riding in glorious countryside and no boxes to muck out as the horses live out.
What you’ll be doing
• During the winter, looking after 8 polo ponies who remain in low level exercise October to Febuary.
• Getting horses fit ready for the season from February.
• During the summer we play Thursday, Saturday and Sunday up to 6 goal level at Druids Lodge with some travelling for tournaments elsewhere.
• We live in the New Forest, so riding is all off road, 2 or 3 rides on non-polo days.
• Feeding, grooming, bringing in for vet and farrier, fitness work, poo picking, pasture management and all care of the horses.
• Driving the lorry if you can - we have a 6.5 tonne and 7.5 tonne
• Tack cleaning and care of all equipment.
• Getting ready for polo and grooming at matches and chukkas.
What we are looking for • High standards of horse care and turn out. • Competent and careful rider. • Able to keep yard clean and tidy. • Quick yet thorough. • Ideally hold HGV license or able to drive small lorry under 7.5 tonnes or willing to learn. • Happy to work on your own. • See yourself as part of a team with us as owners working to get the best out of the string.
What we offer • Lovely polo ponies and plenty of riding in New Forest national park. • No need to have polo experience, we can teach you provided you want to learn. • Competitive salary and pension. • 6 day work week Tuesday to Sunday or 5 days Wednesday to Sunday (please discuss at interview) • Accommodation close by but not on the premises.
