The Michael O. Page Equestrian Center located in Kent, CT is seeking a groom to assist with daily horsecare, turnout and barn maintenance. We have 25 horses and a full staff serving a boarding school riding program.

Job Responsibilities Night checks (2 per week IF living on-property) Early, late and after hours needs Transportation of horses to vet clinic, or elsewhere, as needed AM/PM feeding (including hay, water, grain) Assisting with grain preparation as needed under direction of barn manager Cleaning and scrubbing buckets Meeting trailers and assisting with arrivals and departures of horses Meet vet and farrier when barn manager is not available Clean paddocks regularly Muck stalls as needed (not a regular part of current schedule) Turnout and turn-in horses (including dressing, blanketing, booting) Assist with lunging and hand-walking horses under the direction of barn manager Supervising students in the barn and while riding as-needed Keeping barn clean, tidy and organized Medicating, wrapping, ice booting, banadaging under direction of barn manager Assisting with setting courses, maintaining jumps and arenas (including manure cleanup, picking rocks, raking, watering, cleaning, etc) General barn, facilities and grounds maintenance and cleaning (dusting, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, cobwebs, picking up garbage, raking, etc) Caring for horses (clipping, grooming, bathing, hosing) Laundry Cleaning tack Assisting with camp, summer events, horse shows, etc Restock hay and shavings and stock feed when delivered Assist barn manager with inventory as needed Tacking horses as needed Light maintenance and repairs as necessary Monitor horse welfare Provide high-quality and professional care of horses Assist the barn manager and assistant barn manager with additional duties as needed All other tasks as required Ability to fill in after hours and on unscheduled days/shifts as needed Other duties as assigned

Able to complete list of duties in timely manner and without supervision

Schedule We do our best to give our grooms two consecutive days off per week.

When working with animals and on a farm, there are some days when hours may be longer due to emergencies. We do our best to maintain a 40-45 hour work week however, unforeseen circumstances and emergencies may arise.

Holidays are required but for major holidays (Christmas Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, others as available) we try to put a modified and abbreviated schedule in place with shortened shifts. Assisting with holiday coverage is required. Additionally, you will receive 8 hours of holiday pay in addition to any hours worked.

Own Horse: This is NOT a riding job. A steeply discounted board rate for one horse is available ONLY for individuals living on-property.

Currently seeking a barn manager, responsibilities include: Managing daily care and grain for up to 32 horses Placing grain and feed orders Ordering hay and shavings for the barn Scheduling and overseeing routine vet visits and weekly farrier visits Managing vet visits and coordinating with trainers in the event a horse is lame or injured Executing specialized care of horses in the event of illness or injury Keeping meticulous records of all horse care related events Managing a small staff of barn assistants and helpers Helping coordinate the entry and exit of privately owned horses from the barn at the start and finish of the academic year Assisting with mucking stalls several days/week, more as needed Helping ensure that the barn is clean and well maintained
