Summer camp for kids in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire is looking to hire a Horseback Riding Instructors / Camp Counselors.

We are a classic New England sleepaway camp for boys and girls ages 6-16. The horseback riding program is popular and we are looking to hire a program director to plan and implement activities, manage the stables (5-6 horses) and care for the horses.

Counselors must be 18+ years old and have previous experience in one or more teaching areas listed in the activity list below. Birch Hill has been fortunate to employ caring, talented and upbeat staff members from all over the United States, Europe, New Zealand and Australia! The directors select Birch Hill staff with the utmost care and seek the brightest, most dynamic role models with exceptional skills in their respective program areas. We believe that our counselors are a crucial element in the Birch Hill camp experience. It is important to remember that, as a counselor, you are expected to put the campers’ needs first and your own needs second. It is the strong dedication to the individual campers’ needs that will determine your campers experience and ultimately direct the kind of counselor you become. Responsibilities of a Camp Birch Hill counselor include:

Living in a cabin with eight to ten campers and a co-counselor and being responsible for their safety and for cultivating a fun cabin atmosphere.

Requirements

IF YOU HAVE A PASSION FOR WORKING WITH CHILDREN AND LOVE THE OUTDOORS CAMP BIRCH HILL COULD BE THE PERFECT SUMMER JOB FOR YOU.

The fun-o-meter can escalate pretty quickly! As a counselor, you must maintain order on all occasions in camp, out of camp and in all buildings. You will look out for campers’ health and well-being. If necessary, you will need to send campers to the infirmary for treatment. It is important to empower your campers to keep neat and clean, encouraging frequent showers and good personal hygiene habits.

You will be responsible for your program area. This includes actively participating in the organization and execution of activities, motivating campers to pursue goals in the program, and maintaining the space where the program is taking place. While you will be responsible for teaching only in your program area, we pride ourselves on providing campers with a well-rounded experience at Birch Hill so it is important to encourage your camper’s participation in all of the scheduled program areas.
